LADARWave, like most aberrometers developed for this industry, may be used as a simple diagnostic tool to measure the wavefront aberrations of the eye and may additionally be used to program an excimer laser ablation, a process of laser energy delivery known as wavefront-guided ablation.
The LADARWave specifically is used in conjunction with the Alcon LADARVision excimer laser system to perform a wavefront-guided ablation procedure known commercially under the trade name of "Custom Cornea".
On the day of your surgery, the LADARWave 3-D treatment map of your eye is obtained from the best three of five individual maps taken on your eye.
This information is then transferred to the LADARVision 4000 Excimer laser and using advanced algorithms, a custom treatment is designed for your eye.
Then, the LADARVision 4000 Excimer laser with its LAser raDAR eye tracker, tracks your eye 4000 times per second. Because it is the only closed loop tracking system used in vision correction the treatment containing the aberrations of your eye can be perfectly registered and aligned with the surface of your cornea.
Using the LADARVision's small spot laser with non-sequential delivery, your cornea is reshaped with treatment of both higher and lower order aberrations.
