In order to be able to keep out clinic open during the current COVID-19 pandemic, the following regulations apply in our practices:
- The current office hours are updated daily on our website.
- You can keep existing appointments that we have agreed upon.
All surgery appointments can be kept. With us, these have always taken place exclusively in certified, so-called clean rooms and with the highest degree of sterility.
- Initial consultations for “A life without glasses” only via video consultation hours. We continue to offer you initial consultations, but only in digital form. After making an appointment, you will receive a link to the video conference.
The following rules of conduct also apply in our practices:
- All patients who have noticed signs of a Corona / COVID-19 infection in themselves or in their immediate environment, please do not enter our clinics! Please contact us by phone.
- It is mandatory to wear a mask in all rooms!
- Please wash your hands thoroughly with soap as soon as you enter our practice.
- No companion in the waiting room.
After your registration, we ask your companion to wait in front of or near the clinic. We will contact the person accompanying you as soon as you can be picked up. - We ask you to refrain from shaking hands as a greeting.
- Please keep the necessary distance from our staff and other patients.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dr. Minir Asani completed his training as an eye specialist in numerous countries, among other things including the former Yugoslavia, Germany and the USA. Today, the eye specialist can draw upon more than 20 years of experience in the areas of ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery. In 2000, he become resident in Lünen, where he took over an already existing ophthalmology practice. And it was also in Lünen that he established the first eye laser centre in the district of Unna. Dr. Asani’s specialisms among other things include cataract surgery, refractive surgery(i.e. primarily LASIK method, implantation of multifocal lenses, toric lenses, etc.) and dry eye treatment.
Dr. Asani is a co-founder and managing partner of the DOmed eye clinics and surgical centres in Dortmund and Lünen.
Today, he practices in the DOmed eye centre Lünen, the DOmed eye clinic Westfalen and the DOmed dry eye center.

DR. VALBON AJAZAJ, DR. SCI.
Dr. Valbon Ajazaj completed his studies in medicine at the University of Prishtina (1993/94 – 2000, GPA 9.41). In 1998 he was awarded as a distinguished student at the University of Prishtina. He started his residency program in Ophthalmology, in 2003 and completed it with great success in 2007. Except Prishtina, Dr.Ajazaj during his residency training, was also in Prizren, and Bonn – Germany, where he won a scholarship from the Association of European Ophthalmologists).
He completed his postgraduate studies in 2008, whereas, his doctoral studies in 2019 and received the title Master and Doctor of Medical Sciences, with research topic: “The effect of central corneal thickness on intraocular tension in glaucoma patients and people after Lasik intervention”.
Among the first doctors in the region who started to perform Lasik refractive interventions independently in 2007 (under training of Dr. Minir Asani), while since 2009 he started performing cataract interventions (under training of Dr.M.Asani, Dr.T.Tandogan and Dr.G.Scharioth).
Participated in many worldwide and european congresses, as author and co-author of many scientific publications, published in local and international journals. Member of the German Association of Ophthalmologists (DOG) since 2004.
Hobbies: sports and music (graduated from elementary and high school of music in Prizren, violin department).
He has been working as an ophthalmology specialist, at the German Eye Clinic in Prishtina, since 2005.
PROF. ASS. AFRIM SHABANI, DR. SCI.
Afrim M. Shabani was born in Gjilan on 20.04.1974. He completed primary and secondary school in his hometown. In 2001 he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Prishtina.
He was elected Assistant of Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Prishtina in 2002 and in 2018, he was promoted to Assistant Professor of Anatomy. In 2003 he started residency training in Ophthalmology at the University Clinical Center in Prishtina where he completed it in 2007.
He has been working as an Ophthalmologist since 2005 at the German Eye Clinic in Prishtina.
In 2008 he defended his master’s thesis with the research topic “Comparison of the length of the axial axis of the bulb with conventional biometrics and optical biometrics in intraocular lens calculation” at the Faculty of Medicine in Pristina and received the title “Master of Medical Sciences”. In 2016 he defended his Doctoral thesis entitled “Evaluation of corneal flexibility in patients, treated with LASIK” at the University of Medicine in Tirana and received the title “Doctor of Medical Sciences”.
During the time of residency training and after completed it, Prof. Ass. Afrim Shabani participated in a continuous professional and advanced trainings (Advanced operative methods in cataract surgery and LASIK) in various international clinical centers: Germany, India, Austria, Italy, Croatia, Turkey, Bulgaria.
Published a number of scientific papers in an international and national journals. Also participated in scientific presentations, at international congresses and symposia (Japan, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Macedonia) and regional ones.
DR. MED. GABOR SCHARIOTH, PH.D.
He was born in Berlin, Germany. He studied medicine in 1987-1993 at Humboldt University Berlin, Charlite campus in Germany.

PROF. ASOC. GAZMEND KAÇANIKU
Professor Gazmend Kaçaniku was graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Prishtina in 1984. At the Eye Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine in Prishtina he has been employed since 1986. Residency training in Oftalmology he started in 1988 and completed in 1990/91 at the Eye Clinic – Rebro, University of Zagreb, Croatia.
In 1999 he accomplished sub-specialization for the treatment of retinal diseases with laser photocoagulation at the Eye Clinic of the University of Medical Sciences in Kanazawa, Japan.
In 2000, with the aim of continuing professional education, he was invited to the Eye Clinic in Linkoping, Sweden.
At the German Eye Clinic in Pristina he has been engaged since 2012.
He is the first ophthalmologist in Kosovo to start treating retinal diseases with laser photocoagulation as well as with the application of silicone tubes in the treatment of diseases of the tear ducts.
He completed postgraduate studies in 1998 at the University of Prishtina defending the thesis: “Modification of dakriocitorinostomy with fixation of the orificium” and became Master of Medical Sciences.
In 2005 he completed his doctoral thesis “Application of silicone tubes in the treatment of diseases of the tear ducts” and won the title of Doctor of Medicine Sciences. In the teaching process at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Prishtina he has been elected since 1995 where he is first elected as an Assistant and in 2007 became Professor for Ophthalmology subject.
Professor Gazmend Kaçaniku has been elected Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Prishtina since 2009. He was President of the Association of Oftalmologists of Kosovo from 2005-2008(www.shofk.org).
He has published papers as first author and co-author in international scientific journals and has participated in many European and World conferences with presentations and as a guest lecturer in: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Turkey, Brazil, Japan, United Arab Emirates, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Taiwan. He was the head of the 16th Congress of the Association of Oftalmologists of Southeast Europe (16th Congress of South-East European Ophthalmological Society (SEEOS), held in Pristina, 31 May – 2 June 2019 (www.seeos.org).
He is a member of the Board of SEEOS – South-East European Ophthalmological Society (www.seeos.org). Chairman at AMDA Kosovo – Association of Medical Doctors of Asia, headquartered in Japan. (www.amda.or.jp)
